Chen Sheng-Chang is an Assistant Professor at the Graduate Institute of Education, National Chiao Tung University, and a former Assistant Professor at the Institute of Science Education, National Changhua Normal University. His current research interests include eye-movement analysis and science learning, cognitive neuroscience and science learning, multimedia cognitive learning, science inquiry teaching, mental models and conceptual change, PISA-related issues, and science literacy. In the past three years, he has led five MOST projects and co-chaired four MOST projects. His research results include five SSCI journal papers, one SCI journal paper, and 17 papers presented in national and international symposia. His recent research work focuses on the use of eye-movement instruments to analyze how students construct scientific concepts and construct mental models of learning situations. Currently, he is focusing on analogical reasoning to understand the impact of analogical reasoning on students’ science learning. He also focuses on eye-movement data and combines the application of artificial intelligence and deep learning to build an interface for learners to do individualized and adaptive learning to improve their understanding of science concepts. In addition, he has participated in the PISA 2015, and has been the KeyQuest Manager & Science Coding Manager since 2012, and participated in four National Project Managers conferences with Prof. Xiaoqing She of National Chiao Tung University. During this time, he participated in four National Project Managers Conferences with Professor Xiaoqing She of National Chiao Tung University’s Graduate School of Education, and assisted in the entire process of predicting and administering PISA 2015 in Taiwan, including organizing several training workshops on standardized testing for test takers, workshops on scoring for science non-selective coders, international validity comparisons, and presentations for schools in the North and South regions. He also used KeyQuest to assist Professor Chun-Yu Wu of National Chiao Tung University’s Institute of Education to do stratified sampling and administration of students in Taiwan.
In addition to research in science education, he has been actively promoting the promotion of the 108 Nature Curriculum in recent years. He has not only assisted Prof. Duan Xiao-Lin of Changhua Normal University in implementing the Ministry of Education’s natural area inquiry and practical work study courses and competitions, but has also conducted 11 natural area inquiry and practical work studies and workshops for high school teachers in China and 2 workshops for teachers of independent secondary schools in Malaysia, and has personally presented and led teachers in designing inquiry and practical work teaching courses. We also participate in the Ministry of Science and Technology’s TZP program, which focuses on emerging technologies and assists in the development and counseling of high school science specialties, the implementation of inquiry and practice courses, and the cultivation of international scientific research talents. In addition, we have also implemented the Frontier Project to transform and design science education materials on the frontier of biotechnology and medicine, and through investigation and practical work, as well as the integration of AR and VR, we have received enthusiastic responses from the participants in large science exhibitions in the south-central counties of Taiwan and Penghu.
